Inauguration week is filled with festivities and celebrations of the impending inauguration day in which the newly elected president will be sworn in as the new leader of the United States. Inauguration day, which will be held on January 20, 2009, will be a day packed with traditional inauguration events in which the president-elect and vice president-elect will participate.
Since Franklin D. Roosevelt began the tradition of attending a morning worship service in 1933, almost every succeeding president has attended morning worship service as well. The president-elect will then be joined by the 43rd president, George W. Bush, for the procession to the capitol. The vice-president elect and president-elect will then be sworn in as the new leaders of the country. After the swearing-in ceremony, the president will then give his highly anticipated inaugural address. This address is when he informs the citizens of his plans for the country for the next four years.
When the inauguration ceremonies are concluded, the president and vice president will then proceed to the inaugural luncheon. The inaugural parade will follow along with a host of inaugural balls and galas that will last throughout the night. All of the inauguration events are held in order to celebrate and honor the new leadership of the country.
